This was my second year covering the Valentine’s Day weddings at the Kern County Museum. This year I captured memories for three very special couples and once again, an amazing team of vendors assembled to make their weddings extra special.

Vendor Spotlight: Anamie’s Sweets

This January I was lucky enough to shoot my first wedding featuring a cake by Anamie’s Sweets. When I went to link to her website, I was captivated by all the beautiful work and began looking through every page. Then, I saw it. Right there on her bio – Graphic Design major from Fresno State. Just like me! (What a small world.) As it turns out we just missed each other. She graduated just before I arrived, but it certainly sparked a friendship between us. We also quickly became fans of each others work. Can you blame us? After all, our art skills were founded in the same school. Being a designer certainly translates into so many other aspects of art, and we were inspired to work together again. So, instead of waiting for another wedding, we planned an inspiration shoot. If you know Anamie or me personally, you know glamor and extravagance isn’t really our personal style. But when it comes to creating – we can certainly pull it off. So we went for it, and created this stunning display of fancy treats, complete with a glamorous model to showcase them. This shoot was so fun for us as we stepped outside the box, and created something beautiful to showcase the many talents involved.

Although the sweets are certainly the star of the shoot, so many other wonderful vendors participated. The Padre Hotel was our stage. Details Party Rentals, so true to their name, provided us with several details that just made the shoot pop! The Bride’s House loaned our model the stunning coral dress. Uniquely Chic provided beautiful floral arrangements to accent our table of treats. Angie Brauer new owner of Curl Up and Dye Salon created a glamorous hair style, and Alex Arias has an amazing talent for make-up. They were even kind enough to come to the shoot and help with some styling there. It started with a little idea, and we could not have asked for a more brilliant collaboration!

My New Location!

As many of you may already know, I moved to a new location this year. As hard as it was to give up a space with an awesome street window and the best roomie ever (My Sorted Affair)! I am super excited about this change. I am still near downtown Bakersfield, now close to the Oleander area off of South H. I just love the charming feel of these old homes, many of which are now converted to offices like mine. I have a room painted in my very favorite color, and my favorite prop, the tandem bike, spends its downtime decorating a wall. In addition to all this charm and vintage appeal, this change also brought some “techy” upgrades that take consults to a whole new level. The new setting provides the perfect mix of sentimental nostalgia and stylish technical gadgets to compliment how I define my photography to my clients. For those of you who aren’t local, I busted out the wide angle to give you a glimpse of the space. For my clients who are in the Bakersfield area, this is where we will be meeting. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Heather & Drew : Venice Beach Engagement

Heather and Drew live in Venice Beach, CA. This was the perfect setting for the engagement session of this super cool couple. We walked along the beautiful canal neighborhood, and down by the beach as the sun began to go down. We wrapped up the session in their home decorated in awesome eclectic vintage style. They share their home with two adorable dogs, Izzie and Rosie, who were happy to be included. These two are so cool and so fun to be around, I can’t wait for their wedding this summer!

Nick, Tera & Kielee : Family

This beautiful family joined me this weekend for a family session to document Kielee at 3 months. The weather in Bakersfield was beautiful. We were able to just enjoy the outdoors and capture these special moments.

Stacey and Anand : Bakersfield Engagement Session

Stacey and Anand are the kind of people you meet and you instantly want to be their friends. I’m sure that’s how they felt when they met each other, only with an extra spark (wink, wink). As fellow proud Bakersfield locals, Stacey and Anand thought it would be great to shoot their engagement session around town. We went to several spots, and by the end of the session they had vogue skills that would make Madonna jealous. I am so excited to be their photographer, and their wedding this June is going to be so fantastic! Here are some of my favorites from the session.

Jessica & Robert : Springville Engagement Session

Jessica and Robert are self proclaimed nerds about the outdoors, but after spending the afternoon with them at this engagement session, I am pretty sure they are two of the coolest people I have ever met. They got engaged after running their first marathon together. Yes – Robert ran 26.2 miles with the ring pinned to his shorts and got down on one knee at the finish line (rockstar)! They will be married this spring at River Ridge Ranch in Springville, CA. We also headed there for the engagement session. The winter vibe at the ranch was perfect for their camping-theme. Oh, and did I mention she works for North Face and he for REI? So, not only do they look adorable snuggling up in the vintage North Face tent they found among Robert’s families old gear, but these props also have a lot of meaning for this couple. For them, their love of camping and the outdoors is way more than just a cute prop. Jessica explained to me that Robert is a minimalist when planning for a back packing trip. Something she will gladly agree to, under one condition, “If there isn’t room for marshmallows, there isn’t room for me,” Jessica joked. Something tells me Robert will always be making room for marshmallows in his pack.

Xochitl : After Wedding Session

Xochitl and Tony were married this October. Unfortunately I was already booked on the day of their wedding. I was still so honored they still wanted to do an engagement session with me, and we knew it was a must that we plan a bridal session after the wedding. When Xochitl arrived in her gown I was blown away. She was stunning, and the dress details were absolutely gorgeous. My favorite part was the flowered strap opposite her elegant side ponytail of curls. So classy and also fun! Tony came along to the session, and although he was convinced it was only a bridal session, I did sneak him into one shot. Xochitl and Tony – Thank you for being so supportive of my photography and for being such sweet people!

Marissa

I had the privilege of capturing some portraits of Marissa. She is a natural in front of the camera and I had a great time working with her. Although these are the first few additions to her modeling portfolio, her charisma and confidence make my job so easy. I am sure I will be working with her again soon.

Aubrey and Alex : Save the Date Film

Did you love the song? Well, that happens to be original music by the amazingly talented Jacob Calderon. We thought it was perfect for this couples sweet country vibe. Music is something that is near and dear to our hearts, especially when it comes to promoting independent, local and up-and-coming talent. So, when we were assessing our goals for 2012, we decided it’s time to utilize more of our creative potential, and promote the work of independent musicians. We are very excited to see how this goal will unfold. Whether that means composing an original score for our couples or finding a perfect match for from an independent musician, we believe it will add a personal touch to our boutique wedding collections.
